Duties and Responsibilities:
Medical
illustrators are highly skilled artists that work strictly in the medical
field. They create graphics for textbooks, journals, magazines, and educational
films. Some prepare illustrations that aid in research or creation of
artificial body parts and could also be called upon to use modeling skills to
create artificial body parts for patients who have undergone some surgeries or
are deformed.
Average
Salary: $35,000 - $50,000
Education:
Students who
would like to become a medical illustrator should take college preparatory classes
that emphasize in art and science. In college students should major in art and
minor in science or major in science and minor in art. Many medical
illustrators have a master’s degree in the field. To become certified you must
have a graduate degree in medical illustration, a portfolio review, and a
successful completion of a national examination.
I don’t
think I would like to become a medical illustrator because this career is not
for me because I am not very good at art.
