Radiation Therapist
Duties and
Responsibilities:
They assist
radiologists and oncologists (cancer specialists) in treating diseases by
exposing areas of patients’ bodies to ionizing radiation. They are also
responsible for maintaining the radiation therapy equipment and helping to keep
patient records. Hospitals, public health clinics, cancer treatment centers,
and private offices provide radiation
therapy.
Average
Salary: $22,000 – $36,000
Education:
Students who
would like to become a radiation therapist should take the most challenging
high school courses available in science, math, and English. They can train to
become radiation therapists in either one or two programs. Hospitals often
offer one year programs. An applicant
must have graduated from an approved program in radiologic technology or been a
nurse with education in radiation physics in order to qualify for a one year
program. To enter two year courses a high school diploma or GED is required.
I don't think I would like to become a radiation therapist because it really doesn't interest me and I think I rather have a career with a high education.
