Sonographer (Ultrasound Technician)
Duties and
Responsibilities:
They work
with equipment that directs very high frequency sound waves into the tissues of
the body to produce images of internal organs, diseased massed, and fetuses.
The images are later used by a physician to diagnose and treat patients. Some
may also specialize in examining certain areas of the body, like the brain,
heart, and the pelvis. Sonographers also have to check the patients’ medical
histories, explain procedures, determine what are the best positions for the
patient to be able to produce the images, and operate photography and print out equipment.
They mostly work in hospitals.
Average
Salary: $24,000-$38,000
Education:
Students who
would like to become a sonographer should take the most challenging science,
math, and English courses available in high school. Training programs are
offered by community colleges and hospitals. The programs may be completed in
one to four years depending on prior work experience. They also
must pass annual
certification tests
after completing training.
I don't think I would like to become a sonographer because it seems a little too boring
for me and I'm not very interested in this career.
