I believe this quote means that you should never just do what people want you to do and that you should be able to make your own goals and set them high and don't just accomplish what others want, accomplish what you truly want. I think it also means that you shouldn't make excuses that you didn't go for your goals because you were just doing what other people wanted you to do because you are your own person and you can accomplish whatever you put your mind to. For example if you have to do a report that is two pages long, but you want to do it longer then why not do it. Be your own person and don't let what other think you should do affect you.
